Growth temperature influence on the GaN nanowires grown by MOVPE technique

GaN nanowires (NWs) were successfully grown by Vapor-Liquid-Solid (VLS) growth mechanism on GaN template using metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) with diameters ranging from 20 to 200 nm and length up to few microns. The characterization by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveals an optimum growth temperature at 790°C and X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigations indicates oriented crystallinity of grown NWs.

Phospholipids in Human Milk and Infant Formulas: Benefits and Needs for Correct Infant Nutrition.

The composition of human milk has served as a basis for the development of infant formulas, which are used when breastfeeding is not possible. Among the human milk nutrients, 50% of the total energetic value corresponds to fat, with a high level of fatty acids and 0.2-2.0% present in the form of phospholipids (PLs). The PL contents and fatty acid distribution in PL species have been investigated as bioactive elements for the production of infant formulas, since they offer potential benefits for the optimum growth and health of the newborn infant. Toxicity of Mining-Contaminated Lake Sediments to Lumbriculus variegatus

AbstractBoreal lakes with soft water and low buffering capacity are susceptible to excess ion loading resulting from metal mining. The impact of two Finish mining sites in downstream lakes was assessed with a chronic sediment toxicity test using a laboratory-reared freshwater Lumbriculus variegatus (Oligochaeta). The test organisms were exposed to mining-contaminated natural lake sediments and hypolimnion water (HLW) or artificial freshwater (AFW) as overlying water in two independent experimental setups. Validation of a predictive model for the growth of chalk yeasts on bread.

The present study focused on the effects of temperature, T, and water activity, aw, on the growth of Hyphopichia burtonii, Pichia anomala, and Saccharomycopsis fibuligera on Sabouraud Agar Medium. Cardinal values were estimated by means of cardinal models with inflection. All the yeasts were xerophilic, and they exhibited growth at 0.85 aw. The combined effects of T, aw, and pH on the growth of these species were described by the gamma-concept and validated on bread in the range of 15-25 °C, 0.91-0.97 aw, and pH 4.6-6.8.
